#StopAsianHate

The Concerned Black Alumni of Princeton (CBAP), an alliance of Black and other alumni of color, stands in solidarity with the Association of Asian American Alumni of Princeton (A4P) and the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in decrying the intensifying nationwide racist attacks against the Asian community, including, most recently, the cold-blooded murders of six Asian women in Atlanta and Cherokee County, Georgia. Our very souls cry out to demand an end to the scourge of racism that infects large swaths of the US population.

Eight precious lives were suddenly taken this week; eight families that include children are suffering the loss of loved ones because of racist hatred. There is no question that the murderer who killed eight individuals, six of whom were Asian women, this Tuesday, March 16, 2021, did not commit these crimes arbitrarily, but, to the contrary, intentionally targeted Asian women at their workplaces: three different spas located quite a distance from one another. This murderer’s deeds speak undeniably to a toxic combination of racism and misogyny that our society must reject in order to move ahead and build a better future for our nation.

Beyond extending our condolences to the communities and families who have lost loved ones so tragically, CBAP wants to work with you to combat and eradicate racism. The pain you feel is our pain, too. During the last four years, the tone and actions of our nation’s political leadership have given license to racist haters, who have emerged from the woodwork to commit violent crimes against us as if we are not human. Our goal is to help our entire society become more decent, equitable, and humane.

We of CBAP stand in solidarity with A4P, with AAPI members of our Princeton family as well as their families and communities, and with all AAPI persons in the United States.

Respectfully and with our deep condolences, solidarity, and support,

The Concerned Black Alumni of Princeton
